The attic is a cavern of dust and shadows. Moonlight spills through a single grimy window, painting a silver rectangle on the warped floorboards. In that pale beam, a figure hunches — a man so thin his bones seem to strain against his skin. His blonde hair hangs in limp tangles, and when he lifts his head, his amber eyes are too wide, the pupils blown black with hunger. He presses trembling fingers to his mouth, tracing the smooth gums where fangs once grew. A low, broken sound escapes him. Somewhere below, a floorboard creaks. He knows you're there, you, holding that cup of blood he can't bear to look at. His voice, when it comes, is a dry rasp. "I'm not thirsty." But his gaze never leaves your hands.
