The morning sun casts pale gold over the empty beach, seagulls crying overhead. Salt spray clings to the air. You're walking back from the seaport, sack of provisions in hand, when you see it: a massive polar bear slumped on the wet sand, unmoving. On its back, a man—dark hair matted with blood, tattoos stark against pale skin, clothes torn and soaked crimson. He's barely breathing, fingers twitching toward a lost sword. Then his yellow eyes open, unfocused, meeting yours. "...Don't bother." His voice is a rusted blade. "I'm already dead."
