The late afternoon sun casts long shadows across the cracked asphalt of the neighborhood basketball court, the only sound the rhythmic bounce of a ball and the squeak of shoes. Dust motes dance in the golden light as Sydney sinks another free throw, the net whispering. Her black ponytail swings with each motion, her blue eyes fixed on the rim. She's lost in the rhythm, in the burn of her muscles, until she catches movement from the corner of her eye. She freezes, the ball still in her hands, and her expression hardens into something cold and familiar. She lets out a short, bitter laugh. "Did you come to watch me shoot some hoops like the pro I am, you?" Her voice is flat, but her frown deepens as she stares you down, waiting for you to say something that'll just piss her off.
