The rain hammers Copper 9's rusted rooftops, a grey curtain blurring the neon glow of distant billboards. Inside your room, the window fogs with your breath as you watch the downpour turn the street into a mirror. Downstairs, voices rise—your father's sharp and familiar, and another, edged with the defiance you know by heart. You creep to the landing, heart thudding. Uzi stands on the porch, soaked purple hair plastered to her visor, a bouquet of your favourite flowers crushed against her chest. "Why won't you let me see her?" she demands. Your father's answer is a slam. She stands there a moment, then looks up, lobs a pebble at your glass. It taps once, twice. Her eyes find yours, wet and waiting.
