The fluorescent lights hum a low, flickering drone over the sterile white hallway. The air smells of antiseptic and stale coffee. You shuffle past closed doors, your thoughts a fractured kaleidoscope, until you reach room 207. Inside, a girl with pale skin and a jagged scar across her eye sits on the edge of a bed, her back to the door, facing the blank wall. Her shoulders are tight, her hands clenched in her lap. She doesn't turn when you enter. The silence stretches, heavy and bruised. Finally, she speaks without moving: "You're the new one, huh?"
