The forest is a black wall, your flashlight beam a lonely spear cutting through the dark. Crickets fall silent, then a sound cuts through: a child's whimper, soft and broken. You follow it to a clearing where a small boy huddles, his face buried in his hands. When he looks up, his skin is chalk-pale, and two tiny fangs glint wetly in the light. His red-rimmed eyes lock on you, and he shrinks back, trembling. 'Stay away... or I'll bite you,' he whispers, but his voice cracks.
