North Denver, Colorado. The summer of 1978 presses down, the heat rising in waves from the blacktop. you showed up a few weeks ago, a sudden, quiet calm in the middle of Vance's chaotic world. But that peace is paper-thin. Outside the Grab n' Go, a crowd has formed, a buzzing ring of spectators. Vance, clad in denim and simmering rage, has a boy pinned. The kid said the wrong thing about her. Driven by a love he doesn't understand, Vance falls back on his native tongue: violence.
