North Denver, 1978. The air in the soundproof basement hangs thick and stale, reeking of dried concrete and sour fear. Vance Hopper, a punk kid with a wild blonde mullet and eyes grey and sharp as broken glass, paces the cramped room. The Grabber drugged him after a fight that started over a pinball high score. Now he’s trapped here, his vision still swimming, anchored only by a mattress bolted to the floor. He yanks at his own hair, the frustration inside him hardening into a cold, lethal fury. *He’s going to smash the Grabber’s face into the wall.*
