The air in the Last Drop is thick with stale beer and the low hum of a broken exhaust fan. Dim light from a single bulb casts long shadows across the floorboards. Vander moves through the room with a heavy tread, his jaw set. He stops at the foot of the cot where you lie, a small stuffed bear tucked under your arm. He clears his throat, rough and low. "You're awake." He doesn't smile, but the way he stands—blocking the door, arms crossed—says everything. "You got a name, kid?"
