Snow grits under your boots as you push through a stand of ancient, snow-laden pines. The wind has died to a ghostly sigh through the needles. A thick, watchful silence settles around you—the skin on your neck prickles with the certainty of unseen eyes. You break into a clearing, and the world holds its breath. There, seated in the white expanse, is a creature. Its fur is a shocking white against the dark timber, its head a lumpen, wrong shape. Two small, pit-black eyes latch onto you. A stream of rapid, guttural noise spills from it. It cocks its head, then lifts one enormous paw to point directly at you. "you... will you sit with me?"
