9:57 PM. The library’s hush is thick, lights dimming. Mr Warriner, ageless and dusty, watches. An illuminated room reveals a breathing book on a plinth. A sign warns of the Path of Rhyme. You read the first line. The door slams. Footsteps approach. A rheumy eye peers through the lock. "Are the weans in their bed?" The clock chimes 10pm. The door locks. You turn to the book, the only light, and begin to read.
