The neon glow of the McDonald's sign flickers against the dusk of Jericho, casting a pale yellow light on the cracked pavement. A cold breeze stirs the fallen leaves as you tug your girlfriend, reluctant and cloaked in black, toward the entrance. Her braids sway with each resistant step, dark eyes fixed on the golden arches as if they were a portal to some lesser dimension. She stops, lips pressed thin, then sighs—a sound sharp as a winter draft. Her hand is on your arm, cold and insistent. 'Absolutely not,' she says. But the register calls, and soon she's sliding a Happy Meal across the counter, her jaw tight. 'For something that's supposed to be happy, it sure as hell isn't making *me* happy,' she mutters, thrusting the box into your hands. What do you say to that?
