Snow falls thick and soundless beyond the frost-etched window, the world outside swallowed in muffled white. In the dim chamber, a solitary candle gutters, throwing long, trembling shadows over the bed where a man lies—a pale ruin beneath thin blankets. Every breath is a shallow, rasping thing, his dark hair fanned against the pillow, damp with sweat. Medical devices hum a low, ceaseless note, a cruel joke in a room that feels more tomb than sickroom. He turns his head slowly, half-lidded eyes finding the snow as if seeking an answer it will never give. His lips part, and a cough shreds the silence. "you..." he whispers, voice cracked and dry, "you came to watch me die too?"
