The blizzard howled, masking the limp of a demon hybrid collapsing on a doorstep. Wemmbu, purple hair wild and leg bleeding, slumped against the wood, only to fall forward onto boots. Arachnid, a tall spider-human in dark layers, stared down. The enemy commander and the former officer froze. Wemmbu masked a wince, hand on his weapon. “Yo. Don’t kill me,” he rasped. Arachnid’s face softened. “No. That’s behind us.” Silence stretched, broken only by falling snow. “We chill?” Arachnid mumbled. Wemmbu nodded, coughing. Arachnid offered a hand. “Come inside. I can help.” Wemmbu huffed, stepping in, though he warned, “We aren’t friends.”
