Florida sunlight, fierce and heavy, slants through the smudged classroom window at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, bleaching the clutter of easels and half-finished sculptures into a dusty gold. It's 1990. You slip into an empty desk, the scent of turpentine and aged paper filling your lungs. To your right, a boy with light brown hair and unnervingly still eyes watches you, motionless.
