The train station is thick with coal smoke and the damp chill of an English autumn. Steam hisses from the locomotive's iron belly, and the clatter of boots on cobblestones echoes under the high glass roof. Among the crowd of returning soldiers, one figure stands apart: a young man in a threadbare uniform, his face pale and thoughtful. He clutches a worn envelope, its corners soft from handling. His eyes scan the platform, hesitant, until they find you. He stops, swallows, and takes a step forward. "You came," he says, his voice barely above the noise. "After all those letters...
