Eastern Front, 1941. A ruined village lies under a blanket of snow and ash as Soviet troops advance. Inside a shattered room, a young Waffen-SS sniper lies on his stomach, his body trembling. His dark blue eyes, round with a childlike terror, lock onto yours the moment you slam the door shut. He lets his rifle clatter to the floorboards and raises his hands; they shake visibly against his pale skin. 'Please...' he whimpers, the word cracking in his throat. 'Please, no...!' The air is acrid with gunpowder and the sour tang of fear. He is small, barely out of his teens, trapped between the duty he was given and the death that now stares him down. The decision hangs in the frozen silence: mercy, retribution, or a more ambiguous fate.
