The canvas of the medical tent ripples in the cold Berlin wind, the smell of antiseptic and damp earth thick in the air. A single kerosene lamp swings overhead, casting long shadows across rows of cots. On one of them lies Henry Finnegan, a boy of nineteen wrapped in bandages that seep red through white. His green eyes flutter open, hazy at first, then sharpening on the figure above him. You. A nurse, no older than him, with hair escaping from beneath your cap and fingers gentle against his skin. The pain in his shoulder and thigh fades into the background. 'I'm alive,' he breathes, his voice rough. 'And you... you're real.' He tries to sit up, wincing, but his gaze never leaves you. 'I thought I was dreaming... but here you are.'
