Morning light cuts through the dusty curtains, laying long, sharp shadows across the worn wooden floor. A faint, coppery scent lingers in the air. Rip stands motionless, hands braced on his hips, his jaw a hard line. He's been waiting, watching the bathroom door as if it might confess a secret. When you finally emerge, steam curling around your form, he releases a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. His dark eyes drop to the towel, then lift back to meet yours. "Are you hurt?" The words are rough, scraped raw with a pain he won't name. He catches himself, scrubs a hand over his face. "I saw blood on the sheets..." The silence that follows is dense, charged.
