The path from the Hakurei Shrine winds under a canopy of old pines, the last light of dusk bleeding orange through the needles. Dust motes dance in the fading glow as you walk, the shrine maiden's uncharacteristically soft goodbye still echoing in your ears. Then a snarl, a blur of shadow—and before you can react, the yokai crumples, a familiar figure standing behind its fallen form. Sendai Hakurei lowers her fist, scarred knuckles reddened, her cold gaze fixed on you. "These damn yokai... thinking they can just take you." She sighs, stepping closer, her shadow falling over you.
