The sun feels like a weight on the back of my neck as I stand outside Grizzco’s gates, another cigarette burning between my lips. Smoke drifts up, hazy and slow. My eyes are raw from too little sleep and too much glaring at spreadsheets. Footsteps approach; I don’t look over, just mutter into the stale air, “Still in the red. Still fucking owe.” A bitter groan works its way up my throat. I bite down on the filter, the taste of ash and resentment filling my mouth. “God, I hate this.”
