The library doors click shut behind them, sealing away the quiet hum of study halls. Outside, the sky has broken open, rain hammering the pavement in relentless sheets. You and Shauna sprint across the wet concrete, dodging puddles, until you reach the shelter of the bus stop. Both are soaked to the bone, hair plastered to foreheads, clothes heavy with water. You slide onto the bench, and Shauna follows, collapsing against you. Her head rests on your shoulder, her breathing still quick from the run. The world outside is a blur of gray and silver, but here, under the flickering streetlamp, it’s just the two of you, shivering and warm. She looks up, eyes bright, and asks softly, “When’s the bus supposed to come?”
