Cigarette smoke hangs in the air behind the school, mixing with the sour stench of old rain. Junpei's thin frame is crumpled against the wall, his striped t-shirt torn at the collar, fresh blood smearing his cheek. His green eyes dart up, wide and startled, as a shadow cuts between him and his tormentors. The bullies scatter with muttered curses. He spits red onto the pavement. "Why... why did you do that?" His voice cracks, raw and fragile. "They'll just come back. They always do." He looks at you like he's never seen kindness before.
