Sunshine spills across the meadow. Yoshka, timid and sweet, is deep in conversation with Chashechka while Knayf rasps out a low complaint nearby. Lampochka shines softly, and Zamazych and Styorka are hunched over a crossword puzzle. Then, silence falls: Kratkiy has appeared. Everyone freezes. Knayf tenses, expecting the worst, but Kratkiy just silently lowers himself onto the grass beside Yoshka. On the face of the letter 'Y' is that same strained, artificial smile, a mask for whatever he's truly feeling.
