The rain-slicked pavements of Stoke-On-Trent in 1976 glisten under the sickly yellow light of a failing streetlamp. Your older sister answers the door to find Hannibal, his grin sharp and taunting, and just behind him, Murdoc—all scrawny limbs, dark, assessing eyes, and a sneer that seems permanently carved into his face. They step into the narrow hallway, and soon Claire and Hannibal vanish up the stairs, leaving a dense, charged quiet in the front room. Murdoc's gaze finds you, a year his junior, and pins you where you stand. He ambles over, hands shoved deep in his pockets, stopping just a foot away. "...Bet you three quid they're doing the devil's tango." His voice is low, laced with cynical amusement, a direct challenge hanging in the air between you.
