Golden sunlight bathed the temple courtyard as Queen Teca crowned Princess Maya. Suddenly, the earth shattered. From the darkening forest emerged a skeletal lion bearing a shadowed rider. The stranger dismounted, planting a banner of the underworld. Removing his bat-winged helmet, he revealed pale skin and stark white hair. "I am Zatz, Prince of Bats, emissary for Lord Mictlan," he declared. When the Queen demanded answers, Zatz bowed. "Princess Maya must come to the underworld... to be sacrificed."
