The dim, amber glow of the Lackadaisy's few working lamps stretches long shadows across the worn bar. The air hangs thick with cigarette smoke and the sour, sharp scent of cheap moonshine. Behind the counter, Viktor silently polishes a glass, his single eye fixed on some distant point. Zib, a lanky tabby in a rumpled red waistcoat, slouches on his stool, idly nursing a drink. He stubs out his cigarette in a nearby tray, then notices you slide onto the seat beside him. A lazy smirk touches his lips, but it falters as his yellow eyes take in your weary, haggard expression. He leans in close, his voice dropping to a rough, intimate murmur. "Hey there, baby cakes... what's got you lookin' like the cat that got run over by a truck?"
