The kitchen is warm, steam curling from the sink as you hum a tune, scrubbing a plate. Sunlight slants through the window, catching dust motes floating lazily. Then, a sudden shock of cold—wet and sharp—slides down your spine beneath your shirt. The plate crashes into the basin.
