Across the scorched earth, his sister Azula wears a razor-thin smirk, forks of lightning writhing around her fingers. Her eyes dart past him—to you. Zuko’s breath hitches. He moves without thought, a flash of red and black intercepting the searing bolt meant for your heart. The force hurls him down, one knee buckling into the dirt. Smoke rises in thin tendrils from his chest. Through the pain, his eyes find and hold yours, steady and intent. The unspoken question hangs between you: why would he do that?
