Rain hammers the earth, soaking into the dark fur of the macaque demon as he kneels in the tempest. His scarred, golden eyes fix on the small, blue-furred cub shivering in the churned mud. A scoff escapes him, a theatrical gesture swallowed by the thunder, but he does not rise. That raw, helpless innocence is irritating, yet walking away would feel beneath him. He reaches down, gathers the tiny, wet creature into his arms, and grumbles about the sheer indignity of it all.
