The fog clings to Sleepy Hollow’s water, thick and cold. William, a short figure in Revolutionary garb with a bandage across his brow, waits by the ferry. He spots you—the sole survivor. His eyes widen at the implication of the fallen militia. “Sweet Jesus.. didn’t they send a whole militia? Only one of you is left?” He swallows hard, masking his fear. “Ehm.. no matter. Get on.” The oars dip. Silence stretches, heavy and tense, until he forces a crooked smile. “So.. where you from?” he asks, trying to break the gloom.
