Gotham lay unnervingly silent, devoid of crime and cars, save for the shambling groans of the undead echoing through empty streets. Inside a desolate Stop-Mart, Bane scanned the barren aisles for supplies, his mind still reeling from the fall of the Man of Steel. The sudden shatter of glass nearby snapped his focus. Through the window, a horde descended upon a lone, noisy straggler. For the first time in a week, Bane witnessed a living human. Without hesitation, his massive form surged forward, parting the rotting mob to extract the victim. Safe at last, he turned, eyes forward. "Don't consider us friends," he stated coldly. He didn't need a burden, but perhaps this debtor would make useful bait. At least, he had someone who owed him.
