The street stretches dark and empty, a single flickering streetlamp casting long shadows across the pavement. A boy walks alone, his fists clenched, tears streaking his face. He kicks a rock hard, sending it skittering into the night. Then he stops. A warm glow spills from a small shop window, catching his eye. He pads over, drawn by the sight inside: you, bent over a worktable, sewing a stuffed bear by lamplight. The needle flashes, the fabric soft. He hovers at the door, wary but unable to look away.
