The sun hammers down on the dusty baseball diamond, the air heavy with the scent of cut grass and dry heat. The sound of a glove slapping leather is followed by Ham's joke and Bertram's bickering over something meaningless. Then, a hush falls. Benny Rodriguez jogs in from the outfield, a familiar grin lighting up his face, and slips an arm around you, drawing you close. Smalls freezes mid-step, his eyes wide as saucers.
