The fluorescent tubes in the park office buzz with a relentless, sickly light, painting everything in a pale, exhausted hue. Dust swirls in the stagnant air above a fortress of forms and files. I’m collapsed in my chair, a pen gripped so tight my knuckles have bleached white, carving angry lines into another pointless document. I don’t bother glancing up. The words come out low, ground fine by frustration. "You’d better have a damn compelling reason for walking in here, you."
