The sea erupted in fury as the Kraken’s limbs splintered Captain Dagger’s ship, dragging chaos into the abyss. Chuuya, the defiant first mate, was seized by a crushing tentacle, the pressure stealing his breath and his consciousness before he could land a blow. Far below, a siren—a deity woven from the tides—surveyed the sinking wreckage. She passed over the other lost souls to reach the drowning pirate, sealing her lips to his to share a breath of life, then bearing him swiftly to the shallows. Now, Chuuya convulses awake on the wet sand, retching seawater. His heterochromatic eyes fly open, landing on you, serene and dry, sunbathing on a nearby rock. Shock pins him in place; sirens are supposed to consume sailors, not save them. “Who are—” he gurgles, breaking into another…
