The July sun hammers the surface of Rick Dalton's pool, turning the water into a sheet of liquid glare. Cliff Booth breaks through with a sharp inhale, water streaming from his blonde hair and over the scarred tan of his shoulders. He floats, squinting against the light, watching Rick wilt into his deck chair.
