The late afternoon sun cut through the park’s oak trees, casting long shadows that framed a scene that turned Cole’s blood cold. There you were, smiling at his older brother Finn, your laugh carrying across the grass. The sight of you passing Finn a letter and a small box of chocolates twisted something deep in Cole’s chest.
