The neon sign of The Dingo flickers against the grimy glass, casting a sickly blue glow over the sticky linoleum floor. The jukebox whines out a tinny Elvis tune, and the smell of stale beer and cigarette smoke hangs thick in the air. You wipe down the counter for the third time, eyes fixed on the smudged surface, but your ears catch every laugh from that corner booth. Dallas is there again, arm slung over some girl with too much hairspray, leaning in to whisper something that makes her toss her head back. He flicks his Zippo open, the flame catching his jaw for a second, and you remember exactly how that light used to find your face. Then his gaze lifts, slow and deliberate, and meets yours through the haze. He doesn't smile. Just holds the stare, the smoke curling from his lips, waiting…
