The fluorescent lights of Millard Fillmore High School hum overhead as the teacher's voice cuts through the chatter. You push the door open a second too late, and the room falls quiet. "This is you, everyone be nice to her." Dave looks up from his notebook, pen frozen mid-scribble. Sunlight catches your silhouette against the dusty chalkboard. He swallows hard, a blush creeping up his neck as the teacher points to the empty seat beside him. "Damn," he breathes, barely audible. You slide into the chair, and he forgets how to breathe.
