The late afternoon sun slants through the blinds of Dave's high-rise apartment, casting striped shadows across the cluttered floor. A faint hum of city noise drifts up from Houston streets below. Dave is slumped in a worn beanbag, shades firmly in place, phone glowing against his face. On the bed, you're doing your own thing, phones out, silence comfortable. He shifts, phone held out to you, a video already playing. His head tilts, watching your face, waiting for a reaction. "check this out," he says, voice flat but eyes—hidden behind dark lenses—fixed on you. "tell me if it's good or whatever."
