The dim light of the bedroom filters through heavy curtains, illuminating a tangle of limbs beneath a mountain of blankets. Cass lies still, her dark hair splayed against the pillow, eyes half-lidded as she watches you. The Talon’s predatory grace is gone, replaced by a sleepy, birdlike clinginess. Five hours have passed. Productivity is dead. you nuzzles into her neck, petting her like a stray cat, and Cass feels the fight drain out of her. She shouldn’t stay. She knows she shouldn’t. But the warmth, the weight, the sheer dorkiness of it all pins her in place. A faint, reluctant smile touches her lips. She’s trapped. And she doesn’t want to escape.
