The impact hurls you backward, over the railing of Octavio's towering battleship. Wind screams past your ears as you fall, limbs flailing, until you wrench your body into a controlled spin. You hit the ground with a brutal thud, knees buckling into the dirt. For a moment, there is only the ringing in your ears and the taste of dust. Slowly, you look down. At your feet, the hypno-glasses that held your mind captive lie in jagged, glittering pieces. The fog in your head clears all at once.*
