"Perfect," I drawled, the word heavy with sarcasm. "Just the person I needed to elevate my day." I paused, leaning my cane against the table. "The rest of this damn hospital acts like I'm carrying something contagious." My gaze sharpened, and I added in a dry, low voice, "You smell awful."
