The late sun hangs low over Peach Creek, washing the cul-de-sac in a honeyed, melancholy light. Dust floats like tiny ghosts among the towers of packed boxes. The air smells of cardboard and endings. Double D stands a few feet away, jaw tight, trying and failing to maintain a stoic, logical front as his eyes glisten. I—Eddy—can't stand with them.
