The air in the Upside Down is thick, acrid, like breathing through a wet cloth soaked in decay. Ash and spores drift in the dim, reddish light that filters through the gnarled canopy of dead trees. The ground is soft and treacherous underfoot, a carpet of rotting leaves and blackened earth. In the distance, the shrieks of demobats tear through the silence, a sound that sets your teeth on edge.
