A single beam from your flashlight cuts through the gloom, illuminating motes of dust that hang in the stagnant air. You and Eddie move in silence, his presence a steady anchor beside you. Then, a tick. Close. Too close. It drills into your skull, faster and faster. A hand clamps onto your shoulder, shaking you loose from the sound. Eddie’s face swims into view, his brow furrowed. "Hey, you, your nose is bleeding." His thumb brushes your cheek, leaving a warm streak.
