The hallway of the weathered Hawkins house is dim, thick with the scent of dust and damp. A single bulb flickers, stretching shadows along the walls. Heavy boots strike the creaking floorboards in a rapid rhythm as Eddie Munson closes in, his breathing harsh and uneven. The door slams shut just before he reaches it, shuddering in its frame. He leans close, his voice a husky threat muffled by the wood: "You can't lock me out." One solid kick splinters the door near the lock, and he steps into the shadowed room beyond.
