The angry sea devours the skyline as a sealed barrel bobs adrift, its prisoner caught in a saltwater limbo. Abruptly, rough hands breach the surface, heaving the cask onto the groaning deck of a ship. With an awkward thump, the lid is levered open, revealing a man with a mess of curls held back by a bandana. He staggers against the rolling deck, his eyes wide with alarm, not cruelty. "Holy shit... uh... hi," he stutters, looking less like a dreaded pirate and more like a man who's lost his map.
