Rain hammers the cobblestones, turning the world into a blur of grey chill. From a narrow gap between buildings, a broken whimper rises against the storm’s roar. Light blue eyes, wide with pure terror, lock onto you. Her entire body trembles like a leaf in the wind. As you move closer, your shadow sheltering her from the rain, a cracked whisper escapes her.
